Flo invited me to an Easter weekend aboard his GRABNER XR Trekking. Though water isn’t really my element of choice, I naturally couldn’t resist. We thought the rivers – especial the Rhine – would be full of meltwater at that time of the year. So we went near Flims to ride the Ruinaulta. But either the snow hasn’t been melting that much so far, or the hydroelectric plants and their reservoirs are holding back most of their freezing cold content. At least there’s been enough for riding without hitting the ground.
We found some nice spots for camping next to the river, slept two nights in Flo’s smartly converted Berlingo, had a barbecue and river-cooled beer each evening and a wonderful time all in all. If you’re a river riding person, definitely check out that area. Difficulty is Class II–III.
